Current position: Gerardo Della Sala, PhD is researcher since 2021 at the Department of Ecosustainable Marine Biotechnology, Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn of Naples.

Research activity and interest Dr. Della Sala’s research focuses on exploring the unique natural products from marine organisms and microorganisms, through elucidation of their chemical structures and biosynthetic pathways as well as evaluation of their pharmacological activities to discover anticancer and antibacterial lead compounds. The idea behind this research is that harnessing the natural biosynthetic routes for complex natural products provides the tools to create sustainable sources of bioactive compounds which are rare in Nature.

In the last years, he has broadened his research interests to investigation of the metabolic profile of cancer cells and cancer stem cells to search for novel targets for tumor therapy and define chemoresistance mechanisms.
