Research activity and interest: Maria Ponticelli, PhD, carries out research focused on the chemical and health properties of bitter compounds derived from Humulus lupulus L., Gentiana lutea L., and plant by-products. Her work aims to develop innovative food supplements for human use. She also conducts computational studies, including Molecular Docking and Virtual screening, to discover new promising lead compounds with anti-obesogenic and neuroprotective activity. In the last year, she has focused her attention on developing new protocols for the application of Artificial Intelligence in drug design and extraction of specialized metabolites from plant materials.

Maria Ponticelli conducted research activities at different European Universities, including the University of Granada and the University of Kiel. The above-mentioned research paper proves her research activity, and she is co-author of 1 Book chapter published, “Methods for Preclinical Evaluation of Bioactive Natural Products,” Bentham Science Book.
