Current position: Group Leader
Research activity and interest Pedro received his PhD from the University of Porto in 2010 with work on the chemical ecology of cyanobacteria. He then undertook postdoctoral studies with Vitor Vasconcelos (CIIMAR, University of Porto), Bill Gerwick (Scripps Oceanography) and Emily Balskus (Harvard University), before starting his own group at CIIMAR in 2018.Pedro’s research focuses on the discovery of natural products and unique enzymatic transformations in cyanobacteria. In particular, his group is interested in fatty acid-containing secondary metabolites, which in turn facilitates the discovery of enzymes that modify acyl moieties.
